THE PROBLEM:
In the heart of Mumbai, many families fighting cancer face a second, silent battle: hunger and homelessness.
While seeking life-saving treatment, cancer patients and their caregivers often find themselves with no place to stay and no way to afford a nutritious meal.

The medical bills are just the tip of the iceberg for thousands of families migrating from rural India to Mumbai in search of life-saving cancer treatment. Many are forced to live on Mumbai's footpaths because they cannot afford a roof over their heads or a single nutritious meal.
For a cancer patient, recovery is nearly impossible without proper nutrition. A body weakened by chemotherapy needs protein to repair tissues and a boosted immune system to survive.
How can one fight cancer on an empty stomach?
THE SOLUTION:
The Rotary-HDFC Dharamshala in Parel, near Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, stands as a “home away from home”.

This 100-room sanctuary, run by the Rotary Club of Bombay in partnership with the HDFC Foundation, provides a clean, safe environment for children and adults undergoing cancer treatment, along with their caregivers.
Since 2023, this initiative has been a lifeline:
2,200+ patients and caregivers have found solace here.
1.43 lakh plates of nutritious food served.
150 people are fed daily with love and care.

Healing starts from within. The Dharamshala Kitchen provides specialised, protein-rich meals to help patients repair tissue and regain strength, while also nourishing their caregivers, who need wholesome food too, as they support their loved ones through treatment.
Dharamshala Kitchen prepares and serves freshly cooked, nutritious meals every day for children and adults battling cancer, as well as their caregivers. Alongside safe and affordable accommodation, families are provided with three wholesome meals a day, so they can focus on treatment and recovery without the added worry of daily needs.

ABOUT ME:

My name is Ashhita Pasari. I am 15 years old and a Grade 10 student at The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai.
I decided to start this campaign because I believe awareness should lead to action. In a city like Mumbai, where people have access to medical treatment, it is difficult to ignore that many children battling cancer still struggle to access basic needs like food and shelter.
For families who come to Mumbai for treatment, the challenge goes beyond hospitals—it becomes about survival, finding a safe place to stay and access to nutritious food when they need it most.
The Rotary Club of Bombay, along with the HDFC Foundation, provides a safe and clean home for these families in Parel. The Dharamshala Kitchen initiative supports this by providing patients and caregivers with three healthy meals every day.
Just INR 125 can provide meals for a day, and INR 5000 can support 40 patients and caregivers with 120 meals.
I believe making a difference does not always require big actions—it starts with small, consistent efforts. I request you to support this cause and help make a difference in the lives of these children and their families.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.
