My name is Ranveersingh Baid. I am 16 years old and a Grade 12 student at Jayshree Periwal High School (JPHS), Jaipur.
I come from a stable business family and have experienced material abundance for most of my life. Once in my childhood, I was going to another city by train, but since my AC coach ticket was not confirmed, we traveled in the sleeper coach instead. I saw what inequality really meant. For the past two years, I worked with an NGO that focused on girls' education and another that was an orphanage. During a session at the orphanage, I was teaching the children introductory AI concepts. At the end of the class, a student approached me with doubts. After resolving them, I noticed a curious child sitting nearby, doing his homework with complete dedication. I asked the boy, who was around ten years old, why he wanted to learn these skills. He responded with a simple answer: If I learn this, I will get food.
When I asked him why he was saying so, he said that while the orphanage feeds him now, he wondered about his life after leaving the orphanage. He was fearful about survival outside. He even stated that he would tolerate any kind of mistreatment as long as he was provided with good quality food.
He was not able to articulate his past. I could feel his pain. I told him that learning technology would help him earn a stable livelihood and income. The moment I said this, a smile appeared on his face. I felt very happy while seeing his smile and then realized one thing.
'The most beautiful moments of life are not when we have more, but when we uplift. True fulfillment is found in the hope we choose to nourish, just like a mother's love. Success is by ending the suffering that other people had.'
This incident made me realize that food is something we take for granted, and it remains out of reach for millions of people.
