My name is Vihanaa Gandhi. I am 15 years old and a Grade 10 student at The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai.


I have undertaken this campaign because I learned that in the heart of Mumbai, many families fighting pediatric cancer (i.e., the child OR adult is battling cancer) face a second, silent battle: hunger and lack of a home. While seeking life-saving treatment, patients and their caregivers often find themselves with no place to stay and no way to afford nutritious meals.

The Rotary Club of Bombay, in partnership with the HDFC Foundation, provides a clean, safe environment for patients and their caregivers at a home they have created in Parel - called a DHARAMSHALA. The adults and children who are suffering from cancer to truly heal also need good food, and this is where the Dharamshala Kitchen initiative comes in. The kitchen provides three wholesome meals a day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner, specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of recovering patients and their caregivers.

The cost of three meals a day is just INR 150. This is a very small amount to impact a cancer patient and the caregiver. Fund INR 4500, for example, and impact 30 patients/caregivers with 90 nutritious meals
