My name is Shyam Kaluve and I am co-founder of Gramonnati Trust. Technology has been my passion until now but off late I have become more passionate about technology adoption for better living in rural areas, and that has inspired me to this effort.
As a founding team of Gramonnati Trust, our belief is that the right knowledge and leadership provided to a rural community will go a long way in solving their issues. Gramonnati’s mission is to develop 10,000 rural entrepreneurs across India in next five years from amongst youth, women and ex-soldiers. These rural entrepreneurs are going to be the change leaders in their communities and help bring about the transformation. You may ask why rural entrepreneurship? Because nothing democratizes wealth better than helping people create sustainable micro-enterprises, promoting rural employment and thereby ending the cycle of poverty. This is the belief with which we have started our journey.
Investing INR 100,000 in an individual to transform her/him into an entrepreneur is, in my opinion, a very fruitful and smart investment. Each rural entrepreneur so developed, becomes a role model to many others. Over a period of time, through their micro-enterprises, they will become job-creators in their communities and possibly, help develop many more entrepreneurs locally. Each Gramonnati Kendra will serve as a hub of knowledge for rural children and elders and power the transformation of rural community.
Our villages are the bedrock of our nation and a stronger rural community is what will make us a nation to contend with, over the next few decades. I strongly believe that we can nurture young rural boys and girls to be engines of hope and transformation in their communities.
