My name is Leona. I am 13 years old and a Grade 8 student at the APL Global School, Chennai.

I have undertaken this campaign because I was really shocked to get to know that many students from low-income homes in Tamil Nadu, who go to school (mainly govt schools), do not have basic school supplies like proper footwear or a school bag, and sit on the hard ground for around 5 to 6 hours.

When children sit on the ground for such a long time they tend to get posture related problems and back issues at an early stage.it also indirectly impacts their eyesight and their ability to concentrate and study. Lack of footwear also leads to foot-related diseases and health issues as they have to walk on bare foot to school and back everyday in the blistering heat.

The back-to-school kit costs just INR 950 and gives each student a pair of recycled footwear, a recycled study mat to sit comfortably at school or home, and a recycled school bag for books. This is a very small amount to impact a student. Fund INR 2850, for example, and transform the lives of 3 students.
