My name is Lakshmi Aaradhana. I am 13 years old and currently studying in Grade 8 at APL Global School, Chennai.

I am deeply passionate about helping others, especially those who are less privileged. Bringing happiness to someone’s life and seeing their smile gives me immense joy.

For many of us, sanitary pads are a basic necessity and not a luxury. But for girls and women from economically weaker backgrounds, they are often considered a luxury. To manage their menstrual needs, they are forced to rely on unhygienic practices that can lead to serious health issues.

The solution lies in providing them with a menstrual hygiene kit that is affordable, long-lasting, and easy to use. Such kits not only safeguard their health but also ensure they don’t miss school or work, thereby improving their education, income, and confidence.

The hygiene kit we use is unique because it is reusable. Each kit contains 5 pads—3 for medium flow and 2 for heavy flow—and lasts up to 18 months. This significantly reduces monthly waste and is far more cost-effective compared to disposable pads, which cost INR 50–100 per month and harm the environment by generating large amounts of waste.

The cost of each hygiene kit, including distribution and training, is just INR 500. Since distribution and training are done in small batches, the expenses are high. Yet, even a small contribution can make a huge difference. For example, funding INR 3000 can transform the lives of 6 girls or women.
