My name is Aarav Mishra. I am 15 years old and a Grade 10 student at Suchitra Academy International School, Hyderabad.

I cannot imagine what it would be like to lose my eyesight forever. It deeply moved me to learn that over 11 million people in India suffer from cataracts – a condition that can be treated easily – yet many are unable to get the surgery due to lack of access to quality eye care and high costs.

For many elderly people from low-income families, cataract surgery is considered a luxury they cannot afford. Without it, they gradually lose their vision and eventually go blind, which not only affects them but also their families who depend on them.

But there is hope. Thanks to Operation Eyesight, an NGO dedicated to eradicating avoidable blindness, a contribution of just ₹3,200 can restore someone’s eyesight through a simple cataract surgery. Imagine – for less than the cost of a family dinner, we can give someone back their sight, their independence, and their dignity.

When I learned this, I felt a strong responsibility to do something. I realised that helping even one person could completely transform their life. Restoring vision means giving them the ability to see their loved ones again, work, move around safely, and enjoy the simple beauty of life.
