About:
My name is Tonnistha Banerjee, and I am a Grade 11 student at Indus International School Pune, aged 16. As an introvert, I tend to enjoy spending time alone and focusing on personal growth. While I often find comfort in solitude and introspection, I have come to realize that stepping out of my comfort zone is necessary to make a real difference. One such opportunity to do so is through an initiative aimed at supporting children battling cancer, especially those from low-income families.
Cancer in children is treatable when diagnosed early and managed properly. However, many children from disadvantaged backgrounds also face the challenge of malnutrition, which weakens their immune systems and makes it harder for them to endure the treatments required for cancer. This campaign, in partnership with the Cuddles Foundation and three hospitals in Pune, provides monthly ration kits filled with essential, nutritious items that can sustain both the child and their family for an entire month. Each kit costs just INR 4500, and it helps reduce the side effects of treatment, boosts immunity, and improves the chances of survival.
For me, as someone who prefers to stay within my comfort zone, this initiative would be an important reminder that making a difference requires pushing beyond personal limits. Taking part in this project would show me that by stepping out of my comfort zone, I can help raise awareness, inspire others, and contribute to something greater than myself. It’s a powerful reminder that change can come from those who are willing to take the first step, even if it means embracing discomfort and challenge.
