About:
My name is Nikita Gaur. I am a 16-year-old Grade 11 student at Chirec International School (CBSE), Hyderabad.
I am deeply passionate about helping those who are less privileged. Bringing a positive change in someone’s life and seeing their smile is truly fulfilling for me. Making a difference, no matter how small, brings me immense joy.
For women and girls in families like ours, sanitary pads are a basic necessity. However, for many women and girls from low-income households, they are a luxury. To manage their menstrual needs, they are often forced to use unhygienic alternatives such as sand and ash, leading to health complications. The solution lies in providing them with a sustainable, cost-effective, and reusable menstrual hygiene kit. These kits can have a profound impact on their health, education, and livelihood by reducing missed school days or work and boosting their confidence.
The hygiene kit being distributed is unique because it is reusable. Each kit contains 5 pads—3 for medium flow and 2 for heavy flow—that last for 18 months. This helps significantly reduce the waste generated compared to disposable pads, which are discarded every month. Additionally, these reusable kits are highly cost-effective. While disposable pads cost INR 50–100 per month and must be purchased repeatedly, these kits offer a long-term solution that is both economical and environmentally friendly.
The cost of one hygiene kit, which includes distribution, training for the women and girls, and other expenses, is just INR 500 per pack of 5. However, the distribution and training processes are resource-intensive, as they are conducted in small batches.
I invite you to join and support my campaign. Together, let’s ensure better health, confidence, and opportunities for women and girls in need, while also reducing our environmental impact. Every contribution makes a difference!
