Hello, my name is Sarvika Maitra! I am 14 -years-old and a Grade 9 student at DPS, Bangalore North.

I have undertaken this campaign because I was surprised to learn that many students from low-income homes in Karnataka, who go to school, but do not have basic school gear like proper footwear or a school bag and often sit on the hard, rough ground in order to study at school.

Sitting down on the floor for long periods of time means 9 in 10 students will face posture-related problems. It also has an indirect impact on their eyesight and their ability to concentrate and study. Lack of footwear also leads to a vast amount of foot-related injuries, diseases and health issues. We are so priveleged to not need to walk a large distance to school, while having such good quality footwear; wheras someone out there walks miles and miles barefoot on stony paths- every single day.

The back-to-school kit gives students a pair of recycled footwear, a recycled study mat to sit comfortably at school or home, and a recycled school bag for books. This is a very small amount to immensely impact a student's life. Each kit costs just INR 900 including the cost of distribution! Fund INR 2700 for example and transform the lives of 3 students. Let us take a step forward to improving our society, country and world as a whole!
