My name is Saachi Mehta. I am 13 years old and am studying in Grade 8 at TSMS, Noida.

It is my belief that electricity is a basic need. That is a fact most of us do not even stop to ponder upon. We fail to realize that we are privileged to have access to something we cannot imagine even a day without. The people of Anupshahr are not so lucky. Their life has been devoid of light for so long. It is unacceptable to me that they do not have the means to afford something that should rightfully be available to all. In truth, there are an alarming number of villages in India where the people do not even dream about a life with electricity. Instead, they are forced to finish all their daily work before the sun sets which is around 6 o’ clock in summers and 5 o’ clock in summers! They also do not have gas stoves and use kerosene oil for cooking, something that has a very high risk level and is extremely dangerous. Their days have the potential of being so much more productive and this is where we can step in and make will surely make a tremendous difference to them.

It costs only INR 2300 to light up one home, whereas INR 11500 can help to light up 5 homes.
