THE BACKGROUND
The Katkari community, residing in Maharashtra, is categorised as one of the 'Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups'. Many Katkari individuals have seasonal occupations, such as agricultural labour or brick kiln work, while some resort to brewing liquor to make ends meet. Due to their seasonal livelihoods, many Katkari families lead semi-nomadic lives, which adversely impacts the education of their children.
Though the Katkari children are enrolled in the nearby schools, this does not necessarily guarantee their attendance or continued presence in schools. Dropout rates among Katkari children are significantly high.
The most crucial intervention for the development of the Katkari community is to provide education to the upcoming generation. There is an urgent need to educate these children so that they have more opportunities for employment and a more stable life.

THE SOLUTION
Over the past three years, Jeevan Sanstha, an NGO based in Pune, has dedicated it's efforts to a specialised initiative known as "Khelghar," ( a teaching-learning model through various activities like play, songs, stories etc.) This initiative serves as a valuable tool for introducing the joys of education to Katkari children, ensuring regular attendance in schools.
Khelghar classes are being implemented across 8 villages. Currently, 280 students between ages 5 to 15 attend classes at the centre. Classes are conducted for 2 hours every day. There are morning and evening batches. Students are taught public speaking, art, music, dance etc apart from academics.

My name is ANJALI RADKAR. I am a concerned citizen.
I have undertaken this campaign because I think it is incredible to impact the life of a child. It is shocking to know that several children in the Katkari community do not regularly attend school. This results in them joining work at such a young age. This leaves the family in a vicious cycle of poverty. The parents of these children are uneducated and do not know the importance of education.
The after-school classes conducted by Jeevan Sanstha ensures that children get equipped with relevant skills for today's world. The cost of providing after-school programs to a child for a year is just INR 4000 and will completely transform their lives.

Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Jeevan Sanstha. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload details of the beneficiaries on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert and can read details about the beneficiaries.
When do I get the receipts?
The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.
