THE BACKGROUND:
I am Viveick Rajagopalan, a composer, percussionist, educator, and innovator. Trained in the Carnatic tradition on the majestic South Indian percussive instrument, the Mridangam, I draw from my classical roots to compose music that flows across styles, from electronic and drum‑n‑bass to jazz and folk.
My approach is guided by the belief that “creativity begins where the mind pauses.” This drives my experiments with music and shapes my live shows, where I always leave space for spontaneity, reflecting the audience’s energy through live looping and creating a spectrum of soundscapes.

THE TA DHOM PROJECT:
Ta Dhom Project is a multi-lingual Rhythm and Poetry (RAP) Project, which is a brainchild of Viveick Rajagopalan. It began as a social experiment in 2015 in which an ancient Indian vocal percussion art form called Konnakol, which is normally learnt by mridangam players and dancers of the Carnatic music tradition, was taught to young rappers who came from different socioeconomic backgrounds.
The sound of Ta Dhom Project was also rooted and contemporary at the same time, and hence, even today, it stands out for its depth and uniqueness
This campaign aims to support the young musicians of Ta Dhom Project to perform at WOMAD 2026. It costs INR 7.4 Lakhs for the travel and visa.
ACHIEVEMENTS BY TA DHOM PROJECT:
- In 2018 Ta Dhom Project was selected in the showcase category at WOMEX, which is a one-of-a-kind World Music Expo. The travel and other costs for this trip were also supported by Harman International, Anand Mahindra, and Gautam Radia.
- India 91 in the movie GULLYBOY was composed and produced by Viveick with the same sound as Ta Dhom.
- In 2019, we were first invited to perform at WOMAD, Shambala and Oslo Mela. They even made a short documentary on us back then.
- In 2024, Ta Dhom won the Best Album, Best Hip Hop Album, and Best Rap Song of the Year for "Get Up and Dance." The sounds of the project extended wider, and the 2 puneri dhols were introduced. The learning also widened through this process.
