HELP MY TEAM “RUDRA-SRM MARS ROVER” FROM CHENNAI GET TO THE “UNIVERSITY ROVER CHALLENGE, 2019” IN THE USA.
We are a non-profit student-run technical team and rely completely on funding to realise our dreams. Fund this campaign and fund our team. This global competition has 36 teams from 10 different countries ( we are one of the 36 teams selected from 90 teams) who will take part in this challenge to be held at the Mars Desert Research Station, in Hanksville, Utah, USA. Our success will help us in setting up a new benchmark in the field of Space exploration.

The Total funds that we need to make the ROVER prototype and travel to the USA to take part in the competition for our team of 30 people is INR 20L. Part of the funds come from the college. We still face a shortfall of 12L INR.
Through this crowdfunding campaign, I and my other team members aim to raise INR 9L or more. So please continue to fund my campaign even if I get past my individual goal of INR 30000.
The more funds we collect, the more sophisticated material and equipment we can use. This will enhance our chances of winning the competition.
University Rover Challenge was launched in 2006 with competitions being held every summer since 2007. It is the world's premier robotics competition held annually with a revised set of guidelines and regulations each year at Mars Desert Research Station (MDRS), Utah, USA. URC challenges student teams to design and build the next generation of Mars Rovers that will one day work alongside astronauts exploring the Red Planet. URC consists of 4 challenging tasks: Science cache, Extreme Retrieval and Delivery, Equipment Servicing and Autonomous Traversal task. Teams will be awarded points for successfully completing tasks and will also be responsible for presenting the Rover to the judges. In this segment of the competition, the team will be judged based on team structure, organisation and management, core Rover design and presented functionality, suitability of Rover design to competition tasks, response to follow-up science questions and overall quality of presentation.
This year, the competition will be held from 30th May – 1st June 2019.
To challenge the participants the URC comes up with new problem statements every year. The participants are asked to make their Rovers perform the four tasks outlined above.
ABOUT OUR TEAM
Team RUDRA is a student-run Rover making team of SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu participating in the University Rover Challenge. We are 30 students from various engineering disciplines. Our project brings in best and the most diligent minds of our Institute. Our team members come from 5 domains:
Research and development is the core essence of our team. Our vision is to develop a Rover that can identify the existence of life on Mars and make an impact with dexterous concepts of technology. The learning environment promotes and facilitates an individual's discovery of the personal meaning of the idea. Since our inception, we have consistently kept up our ranks both in Asia, as well as the world.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:
Hi! My name is NIKHIL DATTA and I am an aspiring engineer studying in the final year at SRM Institute of Science and Technology.
I have worked in this team for four years and it has been a great learning experience. To work in a team with such talented people has been a dream come true for me. The collaborative environment has taught me technical skills, the importance of responsibility and teamwork.
We have been participating in this competition from the past 6 years, and we have secured world rank 5 and title of the continental champions. This year also we are selected to represent our college as well as our country on an international platform. We get to compete against colleges like Stanford and MIT and other top colleges from all around the world.
The total cost of our project is around 20L excluding transportation and stay. Although our institute provides us with funds, the amount required to build the Rover is substantially larger. Through this crowdfunding campaign, we are aiming to raise a big part of the total amount. We want to raise 9L INR or more . We assure you that funds raised by crowdfunding will be used judiciously and as mentioned below. The raised funds will help us upgrade our performance and take our over to a whole new level and win this competition.
Electronics is the heart of our Rover. A part of the funds raised will be used in buying new electronics contingencies which will increase the efficiency and performance of our Rover. A solid design is also a must for a solid performance. Hence, some of the amounts will be used in the fabrication of our chassis. Since we are a research-driven team, we spend a lot of time in R&D. So, this will help us in discovering new hardware and technologies and in building prototypes for testing various mechanisms best suitable for our Rover.
PROJECT MANAGEMENT PLAN
Our work is mainly is divided into four phases. The first phase consists of incisive R&D in which all the domains get updated with the latest techniques & equipment which would best suit our Rover. The second phase includes Designing, Simulation & System integration using various CAD software. The third phase is the prototype manufacturing. The fourth phase consists of rigorous testing and evaluation to analyse efficiency.
