THE BACKDROP:
Vidhyashakti is a school located near Shakur Basti, (North West of New Delhi). This school caters to about 40 students providing them with remedial education opportunities who come from the nearby slum areas.
The idea behind the school being in the heart of the slum is to ensure that it is within the reach of the small children it caters to.
The school is a small shack and is unsafe, with not the best of hygiene, and is definitely not the best place to be learning. This affects the attendance, health, and education of the students negatively. For children, it’s a depressing environment but something they have accepted as they do not have a choice.
Parents of these students are daily wagers who work in nearby cement factories. On average, their family income is around ₹200-₹400 per day. Some parents are in search of work and are not earning at all.
This school is run by the Sshrishti Trust (A registered NGO). Meals, food, books, and education is provided to these children “FREE OF COST”.
THE PROBLEM:
Poor quality benches for students to sit on.
There are no walls and just thin banners.
There is no cemented floor and the dirt floor is not easy to sit on.
In the rainy season, the roof continuously drips making it tough to teach.
There are no fans, and the lighting is poor.

This impacts the overall education of these students. They are unable to focus during their classes. There is an urgent requirement to improve the infrastructure of this school.
THE INITIATIVE:
To address the problem, me and 9 other schoolmates from the DPS RK Puram school decided to do something about this. Our aim is to transform the school, which is in a very vulnerable state into a secure, attractive, and happy learning place.
We are raising funds to transform this school and improve the infrastructure. In ADDITION, we will fund the running of the school for the next 5 months (till the year-end - DECEMBER 2023) by supporting the salary of the teachers, the mid-day meal that is given to students, rent for the structure, etc.
This project will ensure a safe and productive school life for the students and also help them to reach their full potential and become” change-makers” in their slum community. It will be a school where students can learn and be happy while learning.
We aim to improve the infrastructure and support the education of these students. This will include mid-day meals, stationery, books, etc. We would also be providing fans, lights, benches, etc.

My name is DARSH PURI. I am 16 years old and a Grade 12 student at Vasant Valley School.
I am running this crowdfunding campaign to transform a small school in Shakur Basti, New Delhi.
I was very surprised and shocked to see the images of the current school and wondered how children are able to study in such an environment. Making the school and classrooms bright, cheerful, safe and providing them with hygienic washrooms etc is a very basic requirement.
Through this campaign, my fellow friends and I, aim to transform this school so that 40-plus children who come here, learn in a better environment and look forward to coming to the school. This will help the students reach their potential and leverage their education to build a career and life for themselves.

FAQs
Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Sshristi Trust. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them.
When do I get the receipts?
It takes up to 2-3 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to the NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.
