Let us together transform the lives of farmers who have lost their crops overnight due to heavy rains and hailstorms.

THE BACKDROP:

On midnight of 24th March 2023, tragedy struck the farmers in the villages of Faridkot, Bathinda, and Muktsar in Punjab. Heavy rains and hailstorms wreaked havoc on the crops and farmlands, leaving the affected villages in hardship.

The farmers were on the verge of harvesting their crops, with some even storing the harvested crops in their farms ready to be sold, but the relentless rain destroyed everything they had worked for. The crops and vegetables were decimated, and there was nothing left for the farmers to sustain themselves.

IMAGES SHOWING THE AFTERMATH OF RAIN AND HAILSTORMS:

The loss incurred by the farmers is immense, amounting to lakhs of rupees. To make matters worse, many of the affected individuals were landless women and small and marginal farmers, who had leased their land for cultivation. They had paid significant sums, upwards of INR 70,000, for leasing the land, only to witness its destruction.

STORIES OF FARMERS WHO WERE ADVERSELY IMPACTED:

THE SOLUTION:

The NGO Kheti Virasat Mission (KVM) which is based in Jaitu, Faridkot, Punjab is planning to compensate farmers by giving them INR 14000 per acre. The average landholding for a person is 1.4 acres. So the cost to impact one farmer is INR 20000 on a average. This compensation will be given to 193 farmers in the following villages in Faridkot district.

The total amount required for compensation to these 193 farmers is INR 42.5 L. In addition 21 farmers have had damages to their homes. The cost to rebuild and fix these damages to the homes is approx another INR 8-10L. ABOUT ME:

My name is Sharmishtha Khanapur and I am a concerned citizen

I was surprised, shocked and saddened to learn about the crisis that some of the farmers are facing in the Faridkot district of Punjab because of unseasonal rains and hailstorms.

Living in a world where our food security relies heavily on the dedicated efforts of farmers, it breaks my heart to see their livelihoods shattered by natural disasters. I firmly believe that it is our collective responsibility to come together and support those who put food on our tables, especially in their time of crisis.

With this campaign, my aim is to provide some relief and aid to the 193 farmers across 4 villages in the Faridkot district. Each farmer will be compensated INR 14000 per acre of land. The average holding of a farmer in this area is 1.4 acres. So an amount of INR 20000 on an average will help and provide massive relief to one farmer and his family.

Together, let's sow the seeds of hope and support our farmers in their journey towards recovery. Fund my campaign as every donation -big or small matters.
