THE BACKDROP:
Amrit Mahal Kaval is a 1500-acre relatively barren piece of land located in the Challakere taluk in the Chitradurga district of Karnataka. This once lush grassland is spread across 1501.5 acres approx and is home to 8000 tribals living in 7 villages across the area. This barren land was once rich in biodiversity consisting of many unique species of wildlife intrinsic to a grassland ecosystem and the tribals enjoyed a good livelihood.

Unfortunately due to deforestation, the land is barren and the tribals are facing challenging times. There are no/ very less trees, water bodies have dried up and land has become unfit for cultivation or grazing. There are 5 schools here that also are in need of renovation. This has brought untold misery and life is slowly coming to a standstill for them.
There is a need to bring this land back to life - literally.
The Government of Karnataka, in 2021, leased out a portion of land measuring 1501.5 acres to the Sri Sri Dena Bhagat Seva Trust (SSDBST) located at the Challakere taluk in Chitradurga for a period of 30 years to improve and rejuvenate the area.
THE SOLUTION AND INITIATIVE:
The Rotary Environment Foundation (REF) has partnered with the Sri Sri Dena Bhagat Seva Trust (SSDBST) located at the Challakere taluk to improve and rejuvenate this 1500-acre land with the above 3 focus areas. We have signed a MOU with them.
This will help create the forest, change the ecosystem, and impact the day-to-day lives and livelihood of the 8000 tribals. This will be done over a 3-year period and after that will involve many more years of maintaining the 5 Lakh saplings (as there is a mortality rate) so that they continue their growth into trees.
The cost of executing this massive project is INR 18.75 crore.
Other concerned citizens and I are committed to improving the lives of the tribals and wildlife in the area and need your help to make this happen.
IT COSTS INR 1.25L TO TRANSFORM ONE ACRE OF LAND. (18.75 CR/1500 acres)
This translates to INR 24000 per tribal (INR 18.75 CR/ 8000 tribals).

This campaign of mine is for a cause that is very relevant and has a high impact.
The initiative aims to transform the lives of 8000 tribals living at Amrit Mahal Kaval. This is an area located in the Challakere taluk of the Chitradurga district in Karnataka. A 1500-acre forest will be created through the planting of 5 Lakh saplings, water bodies will be rejuvenated and the 5 schools in this area will be refurbished. The cost of executing all this is INR 18.75 CR.
Other concerned citizens and I are coming together to improve the lives of the tribals in the area and need your help to make this happen. The cost of INR 18.75 CR works out to INR 1.25L per acre (as 1500 acres have to be impacted). This translates to INR 24000 per tribal (INR 18.75 CR/8000 tribals).

ABOUT REF (ROTARY ENVIRONMENT FOUNDATION):

Karnataka's KGF area is famous for its gold mines, however, decades of mining have resulted in huge deposits of slurry, that emit cyanide dust, making the surrounding region toxic and dangerous. REF has been instrumental in addressing this issue through greening and reforestation measures that have drastically reduced the cyanide dust in the area and improved the air quality by leaps and bounds.
Koti Naati Project
REF has also undertaken a large-scale afforestation project across Karnataka with a goal of planting 10 crore trees.

Funding for this campaign is eligible for tax breaks as the Rotary Environment Foundation is a registered trust and you can avail of benefits under section 80G of the IT Act. These 80G receipts will be sent to you by email 4-6 weeks after the completion of this campaign.

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Rotary Environment Foundation. They will update you on the details of the progress of the project.
