DID YOU KNOW?

It is an accepted fact worldwide that the physical and cognitive development of the child and the general well-being of the entire family is a direct derivative of the literacy of its mother.

THE SOLUTION:

The Rotary district 3141 aims to transform these women's lives by organizing Adult Literacy Programs that focus on imparting literacy (in Marathi) to women who cannot read and write across Mumbai, surrounding areas of Mumbai, and some other areas of Maharashtra too. They will acquire a vocabulary of 700 words which is enough for day-to-day needs such as reading destination signs on buses, newspapers, and bank documents.

Rotary District 3141 proposes to implement Computer Based Functional Literacy, developed by TCS and used to impart basic literacy to over 250,000 people across rural and tribal areas, urban slums, and prisons. CBFL uses animated graphic patterns for easy visual and auditory learning and enables functional literacy in approximately 50 learning hours. Combining visual graphics and repetition of sound patterns results in improved recognition, retention, and recall of words.

ABOUT ME:

My name is AKSHAY VORA. I am 16 years old and in Grade 11 at The Cathedral and John Connon School, Mumbai.

This campaign of mine aims to transform the lives of illiterate women in Maharashtra through a unique low-cost and high-impact program that will help them learn 700 words in Marathi. These words are enough for their day-to-day needs and will dramatically transform their lives.

While all of us complain about how things around us need to improve, very few of us get to do something about it. It’s all talk and no action. I shudder when I think about how I would live a day in my life if I could not read or write and understand my first/primary language.

I have undertaken this campaign because I think empowering women, especially those from economically backward families, has a massive impact on their entire family dynamics. It will transform their lives at a personal level and also impact the lives of future generations. These women will now be able to be more confident and will be able to take on more responsibilities than they would normally do. It allows them to read better, work better, travel better, and dramatically changes their confidence. It opens up new opportunities for them.

The fact that it takes just INR 850 to transform the life of one woman was a pleasant surprise. So for example, if you fund INR 4250 it will help transform the lives of FIVE such women.

Please support my campaign by funding it and let us together transform the lives of as many women as possible and bring cheer into their lives. All funding has 80G tax benefits in addition.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET:

To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from NGO (this takes between 1 to 3 months usually after the funds are raised and transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted in the UPDATES section of my campaign and will be in a format like the one below. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. Click on the link in the email and you can read about which woman benefitted. That's transparent right?

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
This is an open forum for all funders of this campaign.
