THE BACKGROUND:

School-going children in many government schools are greatly disadvantaged when they go to school. They walk long distances bare feet, they do not have a proper school bag, and they sit on the floor. All this leads to poor attendance, health issues and a lack of interest in studies (as their sitting posture itself is very uncomfortable).

THE SOLUTION:

The NGO- Greensole has developed a wonderful back-to-school kit that consists of:-

1. Footwear (No more barefoot walking)

2. Cloth Mask(Protection against the pandemic)

3. Study Mat(Makes it comfortable to sit at school for long hours)

4. School Bags (Ergonomically designed and colourful)

In addition, all these items are made from recycled material. For example, old footwear (which would be burnt or thrown into a landfill) is turned into new footwear. That is environmentally friendly. Greensole also provides employment to women in their manufacturing unit.

Pic shows the items that will be included in the back-to-school kit.

The kit makes a BIG impact on rural students.

The back-to-school kit contains a pair of recycled footwear, a soft study mat to sit comfortably on the bare ground and attend classes, a school bag to carry all their books and stationery and a cloth mask. This dramatically changed a student's attitude toward school and studies. It improves attendance, focuses at school and helps them fall in love with education. It also eliminates both foot-related diseases and improves the child's posture, decreases strain on the eyes and reduces stress on the neck and back.

UPCYCLED ITEMS

Upcycling refers to using end-of-life materials to make a new product with added value. That is to say, we re-use a product that is no longer used, or that can no longer be used, and turn it into a useful product.

This type of recycling has a positive impact on the environment since it defers and reduces the amount of waste in a landfill. In addition, the material is not processed like in downcycling, instead, it is cut, folded, moulded, etc. into a new product.

EACH BACK-TO-SCHOOL KIT COSTS JUST INR 900.

ABOUT ME

My name is Aadhya Theneyur Rajesh. I am 14 years old and in Grade 9 A at DPS Electronic City, Bangalore.

The majority of us, including myself, were unaware of the realities of your nation, our people, and the rest of the world until today. I had no idea what reality was like in India. But today, I've learned how to perceive reality for what it is and to stop believing in perceptions.
To be completely honest, I was aware that some families in India could not afford to provide a nutritious meal every day. According to news outlets and newspapers, I was aware that the government tried to help the poor by providing cash for them, and that government schools gave their children an excellent education and nutritious meals, but this isn't always the case. Most of the time, politicians use half of the funds that the government raises for their own purposes. Additionally, there are now benefits for the needy, but we don't know what happens to the remaining funds.

But just think if one person can bring smiles on two faces then all of can bring smiles on atleast half of the people in need!
So now it's our time to bring change in the world by donating how much we can to successfully achieve all the 17 SDG goals and live the life we actually want to live.

We will help the Karnataka government school students who lack basic school supplies like shoes or a book bag and who frequently sit on the hard ground because some schools don't have desks and chairs. We won't waste your donations or use them for ourselves. Instead, we will help these students. I initiated this campaign because I don't want other kids to struggle, and I know that they can only enjoy a pleasant childhood with your help. They are also the future of tomorrow!

As a solution the NGOs have introduced The back-to-school kit costs just INR 900 and gives students a pair of recycled footwear, a recycled study mat to sit comfortably at school or home, a recycled school bag for books, and a cloth mask. This is a very small amount to impact a student. Fund INR 3600 for example and transform the lives of 4 students.

Please support my campaign so that we can work together to improve these other students' health, attendance at school, and grades. Moreover, this kit makes the children really happy and instils a lot of confidence in them.

OUR PARTNER

Greensole Origins :

As athletes, the founders of Greensole, Shriyans Bhandari and Ramesh Dhami ran hundreds of kilometres every year. They also ran through at least 3 to 4 pairs of sports shoes every year. The soles were in good condition but the shoe sides tore within months. The duo always wondered if they could find some use for the intact soles of these quality sports shoes. A bit of research led to the idea of refurbishing them into trendy slippers. That brainwave eventually spawned an eco-friendly enterprise that reuses shoe soles and is appropriately named Greensole. Greensole used to previously only recycle shoes but now they also give back-to-school kits to rural students which include upcycled footwear, masks, study mats and school bags.

LOCATION MAP:

The distribution will take place in schools across Karnataka. NGO - Greensole is located in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept and is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations and ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
