THE BACKDROP
The KARUNYAM children’s home is located at Ponmar (Chengalpattu district) near Chennai and is a safe haven for destitute children. These children are given an opportunity to build a life for themselves in a unique environment of learning and care. See the images of the home below and read the story of some of the children that are in their care. They currently have 16 children and there is an urgent need to give them JOY ON WHEELS - procure a bus so that their learning and education are enhanced through outdoor activities.
When is the last time you have seen a home for destitute children look like this? The Karunyam home is a delight and children are educated and brought up with massive exposure to art, outdoor activities, and practical skills and are educated to ensure they can build their own lives.

Their vision is to provide a long-term residential stay for at-risk children, in an environment that is safe, supportive, and child friendly, through the care of competent adults who are trained in the most effective methods of childcare, education, skill training and creative learning.
There is a need to fund the education and care of these children PLUS an urgent need for them now to also procure a 25-seater bus ( to replace their current and aging 11 seater vehicle) so that children can continue with their outdoor activities which are a critical part of their learning and development.
THE INITIATIVE
Karunyam Charitable Trust needs your support to purchase a bus for transportation of the children staying in Karunyam Children's Home for all outdoor activities within the outdoor activity program. This bus will be replacing the current vehicle, which suffers from high mileage, and extensive wear and tear and are not worth the necessary repair cost. In addition, they need funds to take care of the children on a day-to-day basis.

Until now, the home relied on a Force Trax Jeep to transport the children. But due to extensive wear and tear, their growing needs and necessary repair cost, they want to purchase the Force Traveler bus which is a 25-seater.
1) The cost of the proposed vehicle is INR 31 Lakhs. A generous funder has funded a big amount and we now need just INR 21L to procure the vehicle.
2) In addition, the cost to support a destitute child at Karunyam (education, stay, food, medical, clothing, etc) is just INR 15000 per month. For the 16 children currently at the home that works out to about INR 30L per year.

My name is SHALINI RAO. I am a concerned citizen and am doing this campaign to impact the lives of destitute children.
Through this campaign, I am to help support the care of these children and also give them a wonderful bus that will transform their learning with exposure to a wide range of outdoor travel activities. This will inculcate in them the love of learning and discovery through outdoor physical activities thereby empowering them to innovate and become lifelong learners and doers. We must lend a helping hand and ensure that the quality of life for these children is improved.
