Children from low-income homes do not have proper infrastructure to help them focus on their studies. At school or home they often have to sit on the floor with books on their laps/ floor to study and do their homework. This causes a lot of problems related to posture, eyesight, health and well-being of the child. It also makes studying and going to school an activity that is physically demanding.
THE SOLUTION
The DESKIT is a very innovative and a cost effective solution to help underprivileged children study with ease. It is a school bag that can be converted into a desk. That suddenly makes studying so much easier. The bag is really good looking and gives these students much needed confidence and comfort. It improves their focus and makes going to school fun and exciting.
The DESKIT comes in 2 sizes and we plan to distribute the larger 25L volume size model. It is durable, light-weight and incidentally waterproof.
EACH DESKIT COSTS JUST INR 700.
(This includes the mobilization, distribution and operations costs).
This will be given to children in slums, rural areas, orphanages, shelter homes, children with disabilities, children of sex workers, migrant labourers etc. across three states - Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

My name is Hemamalini and I am a concerned citizen.
This campaign is extremely close to my heart. I have taken up this initiative because I think it is incredible to impact the life of a student by giving them this innovative product called ‘DESKIT’. ABOUT THE BODHI TREE
The Bodhi Tree (wisdom tree) is a sacred symbol in Buddhism representing the place where Buddha got self-awareness and used his knowledge to help human beings gain this knowledge of life and the world we live in. We seek to be 'The Bodhi Tree' of the social sector by bringing together social sector stakeholders to holistically approach social issues and understanding communities as a whole and we do this by creating ecosystems where all stakeholders can come together and create collaborative impact.
Our first ecosystem is the EducationWithDignity campaign that aims to provide a holistic education to disadvantaged children by aggregating different stakeholders (NGOs, communities, funders, value providers, volunteers etc). The initiative to provide ‘DESKITS’ is a part of the EducationWithDignity campaign.

The Society for Space Education Research and Development (SSERD) is a community committed to elevating and fostering space and research education universally. The emphasis is on providing an innovative and exciting hands-on space education. It is an intriguing as well as a salient subject for the young generation. To accomplish our motives, we have collaborated with numerous like-minded organizations across the world. With this, we foresee a world with a command on the unexplored celestial bodies and planets. We strive to make astronomy and space education a lot more accessible. SSERD is one of the few independent organizations in the country in the space education sector.
TAX BENEFITS
Funding for this campaign is eligible for tax breaks as NGO is a registered trust and you can avail of benefits under section 80G of the IT act. Funding from those with foreign passports is not eligible. If you are an Indian staying abroad you can fund this campaign.
FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from The Bodhi Tree (this takes between 2 to 4 months usually after the funds are raised and transferred to them). The Bodhi Tree is running this campaign and monitors the distributions and will share regular updates. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign.
