ONE SUCH STORY:

Rahul Jediya, was being treated for a life threatening illness at Nair Hospital, Mumbai. When asked what he would wish for if a genie appeared in front of him, his instant reply was that he wished to meet Sachin Tendulkar, his role model. Make-A-Wish India immediately contacted Sachin Tendulkar, who willingly agreed to meet the little boy.

On the 24th of February 2014, the day before this operation, Rahul was picked up from the hospital and taken to Sachin’s residence. He couldn’t believe that he not only got to meet Sachin Tendulkar, but they also played cricket together.

MORE ABOUT US:

We at MAKE-A-WISH believe that, “a wish experience can positively change the ability of a child to fight a life-threatening medical condition.

It is this belief that guides us in everything that we do. It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible. Kids have met cricketers, music maestros , they have been policemen for a day , they have acted in films , they have got their favourite toy …the list is endless

Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved - wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy.

Whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles ... wishes find a way to make the world better.

“We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.”

Currently, we have over 800 wishes that are already with us - of which we're raising funds for 60 here.

There are 69 TO MEET wishes that will require INR 3.50 lakhs to fulfil.

There are 100 TO GO wishes that will require INR 29.3 lakhs to fulfil.

There are 660 TO HAVE wishes that will require INR 41.8 lakhs to fulfil.

There are 9 TO BE wishes that will require INR 42000 to fulfil.

THE TOTAL VALUE OF THE WISHES WE HAVE WORKS OUT TO INR 75L APPROX.

THIS CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN AIMS TO RAISE INR 3.3L TO START WITH. IF WE RAISE MORE FUNDS WE CAN HELP  MORE KIDS.

THE IMPACT WE MAKE:

Deepak Bhatia, the CEO of Make-A-Wish India was talking about Childhood Cancer at the Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre in Mumbai on the 14th of February 2016. At the end of his presentation, two young boys approached him and told him that they were Wish Children. About 5 years ago, they had wished for a computer which Make-A-Wish had made a reality.

The boys, Vinay Gupta and Nirbay Someshwar are children of a vegetable and agarbhathi vendors. Both of them were suffering from childhood cancer. Mr. Deepak Bhatia met these two young men at an event and helped grant them their wishes. Both of them wanted a desktop PC to help them with their education.  They recovered and today, thanks to the guidance and support that they got from Make-A-Wish India, are studying to make a better life for themselves. Vinay hopes to complete his Bachelors in Pharmacy and Nirbay is currently working towards becoming a Charted Accountant.

This is how wishes can impact lives and change them for the better.

Image: Rahul Singh with his hero Virender Sehwag

Saturday morning, everyone was waiting for the India-Australia match to start. The venue of the match was Kotla grounds in Delhi. Rahul Singh wanted to meet his favorite cricket stars Sehwag and Yuvraj. Rahul is a 9-year-old boy from Bihar, who was under treatment for cancer at the Army Hospital in Delhi. He had shared his most cherished wish with the volunteers of Delhi division. October 31, 2009 turned out to be his lucky day. While everyone was sitting in front of their TV set to catch a glimpse of the cricket stars, Rahul had gone to the Taj Palace hotel to meet them in person.

Rahul could not believe his eyes as this has only been part of his dreams up till now. He happily shook hands with Sehwag and asked for his autograph and got a photograph with him too. Rahul also gave Sehwag a small gift and a card that he had brought along. He was so happy that he could barely find words to thank Yuvraj. Then they met Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin was very kind and gifted one of his new caps (which had his own logo) to Rahul.

With autographs, photographs and all the fond memories of meeting his favorite cricket stars Rahul and his father thanked the foundation team and departed happily.
