The Dr.F.C.Kohli Centre of Excellence(CoE) for Advanced Research in Mathematics and Computing Sciences by the Chennai Mathematical Institute is a tribute to this visionary who created and shaped the Indian IT industry and made it synonymous with excellence.
Many of us are what we are today because of FC Kohli and the way he developed us professionally. A tribute to him, who created the Information Technology industry in India, is by creating a world renowned Research and Teaching centre in Computing Sciences that the country can be proud of. I would like to join in creating this future at the Chennai Mathematical Institute. I owe it to Dr FC Kohli.
To make this dream a reality we need to first raise funds to create a corpus of INR 25 crores that will :
1) Support the cost of bringing onboard a Director and 2 Chair professors.
2) Provide scholarships to students
3) Provide grants for advanced research in areas such as data science, quantum computing and complexity theory.
4) Create a think tank of Chair Professors and Professors of practice who will be global experts advising governments and think tanks on key issues that can be addressed using mathematics and computing sciences.
MORE ABOUT THE INITIATIVE :
To create such a new world order, the Dr. F C Kohli Centre of Excellence (CoE) for Advanced Research in Mathematics and Computing Sciences will be created at the globally recognised Chennai Mathematical Institute(CMI) at Chennai. The centre will be an ANCHOR for advanced research that advances knowledge in Computing and will be an ANCHOR to India’s technological strength.
Mathematics is a corner stone for the digital world and this centre will create students of excellence who will transform the world as we know it as they put their learning to work in big data, AI, quantum theory, data sciences, computers and computation, string theory, quantum field theory etc.
This campaign aims to initially raise a corpus of INR 25 Crore to support an annual expense of INR 2 Crores.
Scholarships to brilliant students who get admitted into the institute every year will be a part of this. The tuition fees for each student for a semester is INR 1 Lakh. The total fees for the 3-year undergraduate courses comes upto INR 6 Lakhs. Similarly the tuition fee for the Data Science course is 2 Lakh per semester and this over 2-years is a INR 8L cost.

The Chennai Mathematical Institute (CMI) is a unique deemed university that offers graduate and post-graduate programs with a third of its students pursuing research as doctoral and post-doctoral scholars in mathematics and computer science.
CMI is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. It was founded in 1989 as a part of the SPIC Science Foundation, funded by the SPIC group in Chennai.
