THE BACKGROUND

Imagine living your entire life without being being able to easily walk or do simple tasks because you have are an amputee or are born with a congenital defect that has prevented you from using your limbs.  Over 2 million people in India ( from kids to adults) are going through this everyday.

Take the story of JAYASHREE who lost a limb in an accident when she was 5-years old. She is now 17-years-old and a Grade 12 student. She used to walk 5-kms a day to school with crutches !

Amputees are unaware of solutions and also sometimes cannot afford to access qualified rehabilitation teams ; they neglect their disability and give in to a life of immobility. Prosthesis can make all the difference to them by providing them the gift of mobility and independence.

THE SOLUTION

How do we help all those Jayashree's around the country ?

The Rotary Club of Mumbai Sobo have taken it on themselves to help children and adults who need prosthetics. This is being done in partnership with Rotary Club of Bombay Pier and Ratna Nidhi Charitable Trust. Mobility camps are hosted to provide custom-made mobility aids. The patients are assessed at the camp and suitable mobility aids are manufactured within days. Post that they are also given physiotherapy as many of them have never walked before and require the initial hand holding.

All this is done for just INR 4500 per person.

These simple aids act as catalysts which open up a world of possibilities for disabled people. It's amazing to see them stand and walk on their own without any external support or use their hands. It’s even more amazing to see how much more they can do now as they are independent and free.

THE IMPACT IN PICTURES :

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

My name is Aymaan Merchant. I am 16 years old and in Grade 10 at Fazlani L'Academie Globale School in Mumbai.

One can only imagine how much struggle lies in the lives of disabled people. Mobility is a huge challenge. Their self-esteem is robbed and sometimes their families see them as a liability. Many amputees are employable if they can be fitted with prosthetics. It is unfortunate that they are forced to be confined to their homes because they don’t have access to prosthetics.

Giving prosthetics to people who have lost a limb is transformational. I am truly devoted to this campaign of mine as it will create a massive impact on the lives of many people both young and old. It would be an achievement to see how much more they can do now. Young kids will not have to abstain from going to school or limited because of using a crutch etc and adults can actually find suitable jobs and become productive/earning members of their family. Prosthetics would work wonders for them. It is nothing short of a miracle.

FAQs

Will we get to know the details of who benefitted?

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Rotary Club of Bombay Pier. It will take from 30 to 90 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from the team at FREEDOM TRUST. I shall upload this in the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an email and SMS link to read details about the beneficiaries.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes up to 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the money to be transferred to Rotary Club of Bombay Pier. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
