THE BACKGROUND

The above news article is about this amazing bunch of girls from Akola who study in a school called Manutai Kanya School. They qualified for a robotics championship at the global level in Detroit in 2019. This all-girls robotics team is called the Manutai Kits Angels.  These girls hail from low-income backgrounds and were mentored by Kajal Prakash Rajvaidya, CEO and founder of KITS developing centres. The girls were trained not just in ROBOTICS but were taught how to communicate in English and other soft skills. This all-girls team proved to everyone what girls are capable of if they continue their education and are allowed to tap their potential. Their win not only put India on the World Robotics map and also changed the perception of their potential and created others change. For example, one girl's father who was an alcoholic quit drinking after she came back with her trophy.  

I am a part of a robotics team called Team R Factor, me and 24 of my teammates are doing this campaign to help 40 ambitious girls from the same school take part in 2 ROBOTICS COMPETITIONS at the end of this year.

Through this crowdfunding campaign, we want to support the team's training, the registration cost, equipment cost etc. There is also a training session in Mumbai for which travel and accommodation will also be given.  We will also help them by mentoring them and sending them LEGO resources, helping them with their presentations.

THE TOTAL COST FOR ALL THE ABOVE IS JUST INR 7L. 

Any funds raised beyond INR 7L will be used by the teams for future expenses or for the procurement of any additional resources(laptops etc.).

ABOUT ME

My name is VIIVAAN THAKUR. I am 13 years old and a Grade 8 student at Bombay Scottish School, Mahim.

I have undertaken this campaign because I think being able to impact the life of a student (who possibly is my age or younger) by helping them get this exposure to STEM is incredible. The impact that has been made because of the first team was massive, and they need support to continue to do this.  The girls come from underprivileged households, with some living on household incomes as slow as Rs 10000 for the entire family.

We as a team have also decided that to ensure empowerment in the true sense, we have to design outcome-oriented outreach for girls. They have to be imparted better skills and capabilities that will generate confidence and self-esteem to seek independent thinking and financial autonomy. These will go a long way in building equitable relations within the family, the community and other stakeholders in the society.

Please fund my campaign as a simple act of kindness on your part can have a profound impact on a girl's life. It will give them exposure, confidence, and a wonderful life. Let us make a difference together.

We are a team of 23 young enthusiastic robotics students from Mumbai, India. Many of us have been working with LEGO® robots, World Robot Olympiads, and the FIRST® programs since 2009. We have represented the country at several international events, tallying a total of 43 international selections amongst us. Our mission is to inspire the children and youth of our community and country by engaging them in STEM Programs like FIRST.
