As you may know, my son Anirudh and Laetitia plan to get married on 17th April 2021 in France. As a part of their celebrations, they want to do a little act that can touch the lives of others and alter the social fabric for better. Due to the current situation, many of our near and dear ones could not partake in this joyous occasion. So I am calling out to all the well-wishers of the newlyweds to spread the joy by helping women in rural Maharashtra instead. These women walk a very long distance every day to get water. A wonderful innovation called the Waterwheel can dramatically change their lives. It costs just INR 2500 per water wheel.
Our family is funding INR 2.5L to support 100 women. Through this campaign, we want to raise more funds to impact more women. This campaign is being done with the reputed Rotary Club of Bombay Hanging Garden and the water wheels will be given to women in rural areas in Maharashtra. There is a demand for approximately 600 water wheels in the areas of Karjat and Nandurbar which would need INR 15L of funding.
Read on to discover how this will completely transform their lives and fund generously. All funding has 80G tax benefits and feedback will be given on how the funds are used.
There is an identified demand for 600 water wheels approx in the following areas of Maharashtra.
They are located in the Palghar area of Thane district and are just 2 hours from Mumbai. Many are dominated by tribals. Village wise identified need is as under.
- Darshet – 150
- Khadakoli – 100
- Karasuda – 100
- Virathan Katkaripada - 60
- Babarpada – 55
- Dhobhadipada – 50
- Lalthane – 45
- Kirapada – 40
We can change that with a simple, low cost and amazing innovation called the WATER WHEEL.
The WATER WHEEL allows them to carry large volumes of water with minimal effort. This saves the time energy and is a game-changer in rural areas. They can use the time saved for the betterment of their families. It also creates social change as men & boys step forward and use the WATER WHEEL to get water.
The WATER WHEEL is manufactured by Nilkamal.
The cost of each WATER WHEEL is just INR 2500, including distribution.
ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN
I am a corporate professional and I have spent more than half a century of my life in the Maximum City of Mumbai. This land and my folks are the pedigree of who we are today. On the occasion of the marriage of our only son Anirudh, here is a small token of our thanksgiving by participating in the “Water Wheel” project, an initiative to democratise water distribution in rural Maharashtra.
This is a campaign that will transform the lives of women in the Palghar district of Thane (near Mumbai) who are saddled with the inconvenient task of walking long distances to get water. The task is time-consuming and very burdensome. It causes back and neck aches. The women also spend hours to get the water & waste time - time that could be used to do something more productive and generate income elsewhere.
I was thrilled and surprised to learn about the Water Wheel. This is a simple, sustainable and revolutionary innovation which is an easy-to-use efficient transport system that can hold up to 45L of water and provides the household with enough water for over a day. The handles can be removed in seconds so that it is also used as a storage container. It's very durable and will last for years. It also brings about a massive behavioural change as men have started using it to get water.
Please support my campaign and let us together bring joy to more women in these tribal areas. The Water wheels will be distributed by the team from the Rotary Club of Hanging Gardens with their local partners. The cost of doing this (including identifying the women, the cost of the water wheel, the actual distribution ) is only INR 2500 per water wheel making it truly a revolutionary idea.
Lets together impact and change the lives of these women in rural areas of Maharashtra.
FEATURES & SPECS
The WATER WHEEL is a cylindrical plastic container that can hold up to 45 litres of water. The handles help people to roll it on the ground without the physical strain that occurs while carrying water pots on head, shoulders or waist.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from the NGO telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. That's transparent right.
The below image is an example of the FEEDBACK FORMAT that will be shared. (There will be a detailed report as well)
Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Rotary Club Bombay Hanging Garden. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload the picture of the beneficiary on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.
When do I get the receipts?
It takes up to 2-3 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to the NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.
How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
