Cancer is a leading cause of death in children and adolescents around the world and approximately 300000 children aged 0 to 19 years old are diagnosed with cancer each year. The problem is huge in India and it creates havoc in the lives of many families. The biggest challenge for many parents from low-income homes is funding the cost of treatment for their child.
Our school, Vidyashilp has taken an initiative to help children battling with blood cancer (Leukaemia). We have started a campaign called VSA Cancer Care Fund which is going to help pay for the treatment of children affected. The school has partnered with CyteCare Cancer hospitals to help them.
Cytecare provides highly specialised, modern diagnostic services, treatment and care for cancer. Their team of clinicians are strongly guided by national as well as global protocols such as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Tata Memorial Hospital.
ABOUT ME
My name Is Kanushka Jain. I am a grade 9 student at Vidyashilp Academy, Bengaluru.
Leukaemia is a cancer of blood-forming tissues, including bone marrow. Many types exist such as acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, acute myeloid leukaemia and chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.
It is extremely disheartening to know that several children from low-income homes are unable to get treatment for cancer. I believe that health care is a basic necessity that should be available to everyone irrespective of their financial condition. I have always had this feeling of helping others and the need to give back to our society. I have undertaken this campaign because I don’t think children belong in hospitals. Doing this ensures that one more child gets a chance to go out and play rather than suffer at home.
Every small amount of donation will make a difference to them. This will give them a chance to have a future like ours.
