THE PROBLEM

Surface contamination is a major reason for the spread of the virus-like CORONA. Due to this reason vegetable markets are vulnerable to community transmission and spread. Vendors and buyers must take measures to keep their produce safe and hygienic. They use various methods to keep their items clean- keeping in sunlight, washing with soap, baking soda, potassium permanganate and hand sanitizers - to sanitize fruits and vegetables. However, these methods are not effective and some are even harmful. The best way to sanitize these items is by using UV radiation.

Ultraviolet-C radiation or UVC is a known disinfectant for air, water, and nonporous surfaces. According to the US Food and Drug Association, UVC effectively destroys SARS-Coronavirus, and many have a similar nullifying effect on the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19.

THE SOLUTION

Recognising this need, a young innovator, Aditya Pachpande, has taken matters in his own hands to create the UVC radiation-based SURAKSHA box that will disinfect and decontaminate essential items. This can be distributed to vegetable vendors all across Maharashtra.

"Suraksha Box”- a DIY UVC Sanitiser Box that disinfects everyday items without using chemicals and detergents - is getting rave reviews from the scientific community, including getting a Govt of India MC&I) Patent Published and is tested, approved & certified by CSIR-CMERI (ICMR Approved lab of Govt. of India).  The box can enable protection against all kinds of bacteria and viruses including COVID-19  by facilitating surface decontamination of items such as office supplies, mobile phones, vegetables, groceries, etc.

The Suraksha box uses UVC light in a controlled environment to sterilise items inside it. The UVC lamp emits light of 240-nanometer frequency perfect to destroy viruses and bacteria on the surface of these items. The inside walls of the Suraksha Box are lined with aluminium bubble wrap that reflects UVC light evenly around the items and is also easy to clean.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

My name is SUCHITA CHAVAN. I am a student at ASM Group of Institutes, Pune.

The pandemic has changed our lives in a myriad of ways. As we settle into the new normal, the most notable difference is how we keep ourselves and our personal effects safe by sanitising and disinfecting. This brilliant innovation by Aditya Pachpande will surely help in this regard.

The Suraksha Box will ensure the fruits & vegetables, the cash that is exchanged is disinfected. This will transform the whole process of buying from vegetable vendors, and make it safer for everyone involved. Let us extend a helping hand and help boost their income during this difficult time.

I request all of you to support my campaign so that we can also contribute to their well-being in our own small little way. The money collected from this campaign would be used to provide them with Suraksha boxes.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
