A good start in life begins with a primary education, which makes the framework for a child’s future. These early years determine the physical, social and emotional skills needed to succeed in life. Primary school education builds a strong foundation for future academic success and positive learning experiences nurture self-confidence. Most importantly, a healthy mind must be complemented by a healthy body, through a nutritious and balanced diet.
The Samarpan Foundation runs a primary school in Kishangarh village, Delhi. The village is an urban slum, inhabited by migrant workers: rag pickers, sweepers, construction workers, etc. who never got the opportunity to go to school. The students at the school are not only given an education they are also provided with healthy meals, uniforms, books and stationery and a lot more. A majority of these children will be first-generation learners who will be the ones to break their families out of the vicious cycle of poverty.
All it takes is INR 2500 to impact a child for a month - this includes 2 meals a day, education, uniforms, stationery, woollens etc.
I am raising INR 22500 or more to change the life of a child from the urban slums of Delhi for 9 months or more. This is being done in partnership with the NGO, Samarpan Foundation. Read on to discover how.
Help me raise INR 22500 or more to support a child for 9 months or more. If more funds are raised, the child is impacted for longer. If we raise more than INR 30000 then we impact more than one child.
The Primary School also serves as a Bridge School for late starters; covering nursery to kindergarten classes (children aged 3 to 5 years) and Primary Education: Class 1 to 5 (children aged 6 to 10 years). The meals are a balanced diet that consists of pulses, cereals, vegetables. Fruits are provided. There are 240 children in this program. School timings are from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm approx, both breakfast and lunch are given from Monday to Saturday.
Samarpan School was started in 2007 as a Primary School up to Class 5. It prepares children for govt schools and uses a syllabus that is in line with the CBSE syllabus. It is NOT affiliated with any exam board (like CBSE/ICSE etc). It is located in Kishangarh Village, a rag-pickers’ colony in Vasant Kunj, the aim was to bring children off the streets and into classrooms. Some parents did not see the point of sending their children to school when they could be earning instead, the meals provided at school served as an incentive for them as it was two meals less to worry about. Some children had been ‘pushed out’ of mainstream schools owing to ill-treatment meted out to them by teachers and peers. In 2011 they rented 2 rooms to start a crèche. This helped in bringing children to school, who used to stay home to care for their siblings.
A situation is deliberately created to redirect the child’s energy away from roaming the streets to a system of coming together, through counselling, fun pastimes, and awareness programs. Late starters are given personalized attention to catch up to their age-appropriate classes before joining the mainstream. Other vocational classes, sports training and value education programs are conducted, to ensure a well-rounded growth for the child.
ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:
My name is RIVYA AGARWAL and I am a Grade 11 student at Pathways World School, Aravali near Gurgaon.
I have undertaken this campaign because I think it is important to impact the life of a child who is not as fortunate as I am. These children come from the Urban slum of Kishangarh in New Delhi. The parents cannot afford to educate their children and would rather have them earn money. Most of them come from financially very poor homes. This means working on the street or some form of child labour. The school run by Samarpan is a blessing in disguise as this is the first step for the children to get educated in a safe environment.
The fact that the school provides two meals, a creche, education, uniforms, etc for free makes it impossible for parents NOT to send their children here. This allows these not-so-fortunate kids to experience school life. They are often the first ones to be educated in their entire family.
The cost of educating them is just INR 2500 per month and includes food, uniform, education (cost of teachers and school infra), books/stationery, etc. Educating a child here holds the promise of them getting a job once they grow up. This will help them get their family out of the vicious cycle of poverty. Please fund my campaign as a simple act of kindness on your part can have a profound impact on a child’s life.
As an individual, I am trying to raise INR 22500 or more to impact a child for 9 months or more. Let us make a difference. If we collect more funds we can transform the life of a child for longer. So if we collect 60000 INR we fund the education, meals, etc of 2 such kids for an entire year. That would be wonderful !!

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET
To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from SAMARPAN FOUNDATION (this takes between 1 to 3 months usually after the funds are raised & transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign and will be in a format like the one below. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. Click on the link on the email and you can read about which child benefitted. That's transparent right.
The below image is an example of the FEEDBACK FORMAT that we will be shared with all my funders.
Will we get to know the details of who benefitted?
Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to SAMARPAN. It will take from 1 to 3 months after that to get details of fund use. Once I get this information from them I shall upload this on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries. (Which student/students and for how long)
When do I get the receipts?
It takes up to 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.
How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.
It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.
