To most of us, ‘Thalassemia is just another term that we have read somewhere or heard about in passing. However, in stark reality, thousands of patients battle Thalassemia on a regular basis all through their lives. Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that leads to an excessive destruction of red blood cells, which results in anaemia.

Children with Thalassemia require lifelong blood transfusions, as often as every three weeks, and a daily dose of medicines to try and lead a life as normal as possible.

For over 3 decades now, Bangalore Medical Services Trust (BMST), established by Rotary Club of Bangalore and TTK Group of Companies, has been providing blood banking services to patients and hospitals all over Karnataka. We are located in Bangalore near the old airport.

BMST has also been supporting Thalassemia patients not only with blood but also by giving blood transfusion as a day-care service. The only treatment option for those diagnosed with Thalassemia is regular blood transfusion, at least twice a month in most cases. All the medical services provided by BMST are world-class, and are made available free of cost to as many patients who come to their premises, seeking help.

HOW I AM HELPING

Each transfusion costs about INR 2000 including crowdfunding charges. I am raising INR 20,000 to help fund the transfusions for 10 patients for a month.

SUPPORT ME IN RAISING INR 20000 TO HELP COVER

THE BLOOD TRANSFUSION COSTS FOR 10 THALASSEMIA PATIENTS!

The proceeds of the money collected will be handed over to BMST, who will then use the funds to cover the costs of blood transfusion for as many as 10 Thalassemia patients. If we raise a very very large amount of money as a group of students we could use some of the money also for treatment of some of these patients ( medicine expenses tend to be very expensive and amount to about 80000 INR p.a)

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:

Hi there, my name is Avanti Jain and I am 14 years old studying at the DPS Bangalore South. A few days back our school had a program in which they told us about a crowd funding program, Crowd funding is the practice of funding a project or venture by raising many small amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the Internet. Crowd funding is a form of crowd sourcing and of alternative finance. The program is called the DPS GIVE LIFE campaign and the funds raised are going to help people who are suffering from Thalassemia. I took part in this campaign as I like taking part in everything and I also like to do some social work. So I took this campaign as challenge.     It took little time to convince my parents, but once they got to know what the campaign actually is they were ready to support. People with severe Thalassemia require medical treatment. A blood transfusion regimen was the first measure effective in prolonging life and many people have to travel from one place to another for getting their blood transfused.  In this campaign we are supposed raise 20,000 rupees, think about it, rising only 20,000 can save someone’s life and it’s not only me who is saving their life, it’s you who is going to save their lives by just contributing little.

Once I understood what the problem was , I decided that I wanted to help them and do this campaign. I just want to prove that every rupee helps and if we work together we can achieve anything. The fact that just a contribution of INR 2000 can make a difference to the life of someone made me realise that I must do something about it. Further, I believe that healthcare is a basic necessity which should be available to everyone irrespective of where they come from or their financial condition.

FAQs

Will we get to know details of the people who benefitted?

Yes you will get basic information about how many people were funded and when, while respecting their PRIVACY . After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to BMST. It will take from 30 to 90 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was.  BMST can share the personal details of the beneficiaries only if they give written consent Otherwise at least details like numbers, age of the patient and so on can be shared.  Once I get this information from the team at BMST I will update the information on the campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.

What are the crowdfunding charges?

Fueladream charges 2% for the payment for the payment gateway and 10% as crowdfunding charges. That is 12%.With GST the total comes to 14.36% . There is also an initial fee of 3000 INR which is being waived for us. Of the INR 20,000 a net amount of INR 17300 will be transferred to BMST which will take care of treatment of 10 patients for a month.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes upto 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.

You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Monthly Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
