Water is the key to life. Millions of women in rural India walk many kilometers a day to get water from a distant water source like a river, lake or pond. They do this by carrying pots or vessels on their heads and make multiple trips. This takes up all their time, creates health issues (as it impacts the back, neck, etc) and leads to unnecessary stress.

We can change that with a simple, low cost and amazing innovation called the Water Wheel - a simple, low cost, high impact initiative that allows them to carry a large volume of water with minimal effort. This saves them time, energy and is a game-changer in rural areas. They can use the time saved for the betterment of their families. It also creates social change as men step forward and use the water wheel to get water.

The cost of each Water Wheel is just INR 2500, including distribution.

I am raising INR 25,000 or more to impact 10 women or more in rural areas of Karjat by giving each of them a Water Wheel. Each water wheel has a capacity of 45 liters and one trip in a day is enough for the needs of the entire household typically.

These funds will be used for funding 10 women by giving them a water wheel each. If I raise INR 50000, I can impact 20 women.

My name is AAROHI VIKRAM HARANE. I am a Grade 6 student at Podar Intl. School, Worli.

This is a campaign that will transform the lives of women in Kajrat (near Mumbai in the Raigad district) who are burdened with the time-consuming and inconvenient task of obtaining and carrying water. The vessels in which the water is carried are heavy and can cause back and headaches. The women also wait for hours to get the water, this time could be used to generate income elsewhere.

A simple yet revolutionary alternative is the Water Wheel. It is an easy-to-use efficient transport system that can hold up to 40L of water and provide the household with enough water for at least a day.

Through this campaign, I hope to impact 10 or more women by providing each of them with a Water Wheel. Each one costs Rs 2500, inclusive of manufacture and distribution.

Please support my campaign and let us together bring joy to more women in Kajrat, located near Mumbai in the Raigad district.

The water wheel is a cylindrical plastic container that can hold up to 45 liters of water. The handles help people to roll it on the ground without the physical strain that occurs while carrying water pots on head, shoulders or waist.

The map shown here highlights the location of the area where these Water Wheels will be distributed.

Rotary Club Bombay Hanging Garden was chartered on 16th May 1986. The Rotary Club of Bombay Central sponsored it. The charity arm of the club - Rotary Club of Bombay Central Island Trust, was formed in the year 2004 under the umbrella of Rotary Club of Bombay Hanging Garden.

The mission of The Rotary Foundation is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty. The Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

All funding for this campaign has tax benefits. Receipts will be issued by Rotary Club of Bombay Central Island Trust which is the charity arm of the club and a registered Trust. Indian citizens can avail of 80G tax benefits. Foreign funding is accepted too.

To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from NGO (this takes between 2 to 4 months usually after the funds are raised & transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. That's transparent right.

The below image is an example of the FEEDBACK FORMAT that will be shared.

Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Rotary Club of Bombay Central Island Trust. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload the picture of the beneficiary on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes up to 2-3 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to the NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
This is an open forum for all funders of this campaign.
