FACTS: PALNA, (which means “cradle” as well as “nurture”) is the home for abandoned, homeless and destitute children run by DCCW. It has 14 centers across DELHI with HQ in Qudsia Bagh, Old Delhi, it is a haven of peace, security, and stability for the children who are taken care of.

A PALNA is placed just outside the gates to allow a child to be placed in it by anyone, without the need of identifying themselves. This is how DCCW receives most of the children. Children also come to PALNA through the police and through hospitals and clinics. Occasionally, families may come to the home to relinquish their children. As soon as a child is placed in the cradle, a siren is immediately activated, and a nurse comes to take the child in.

Today, on an average, PALNA looks after 60 - 75 children, ranging in age from new-borns to 8-year-olds. As soon as a child comes to PALNA, he or she is taken to the in-house medical crisis unit for a thorough medical check-up and is treated by the doctors as required. Efforts are initiated to trace the family of the child. Only after it is established that the child is abandoned, all efforts are made to place the child in adoption. Over the last three decades, DCCW have placed over 2,800 children in loving families, selected after rigorous screening and evaluation procedures.

Infants often arrive in a precarious state of health – low birth weight, hypothermic, babies with trauma and congenital defects or mentally challenged. Survival is the immediate challenge for a newborn. We have a team of dedicated round-the-clock doctors, nurses, and caregivers, and our medical crisis unit has all the necessary equipment to handle emergencies among infants and new-borns. Mortality at PALNA today is negligible.

The cost to take care of a child on an average comes approximately INR 15000 per month. This includes their stay, food, clothes and medical care.

I am raising INR 15000 or more to fund a child at PALNA for a month or more. This is being done in partnership with the NGO, DCCW. Read on to discover how.

CASE STUDY

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN:

My name is NIKITA PHOGAT and I am in Grade 12 at the DPS Gurgaon.

I have undertaken this campaign because I think being able to impact the lives of infants and abandoned children by funding their stay, food, clothes and medical care at PALNA is incredible. PALNA (which means “cradle” as well as “nurture”) an initiative by DCCW is the home for abandoned, homeless and destitute children. Infants are usually left/abandoned in the CRADLE which is placed outside the DCCW campus in Delhi.

The cost to take care of a child at PALNA is just INR 15000 per month.

Please fund my campaign as a simple act of kindness on your part can have a profound impact on a child’s life. It will give them confidence and a wonderful life.

As an individual, I am trying to raise INR 15000 or more to impact a child for a month or more. Let us make a difference together. If we collect more funds we could support more children at PALNA or the same child for a longer duration.

OUR PARTNER

Delhi Council for Child Welfare (DCCW) is a registered non-profit, Non-Governmental organization (NGO) that was established in 1952. The Council first started its work providing care to children who had been displaced, lost or abandoned in the riots surrounding the Partition of India.

All our services and programs are targeted solely at underprivileged children in and around Delhi. Over the decades, our programs have diversified to cover medical services, nutrition, vocational training, adoption, rehabilitation of physically and mentally challenged children and the provision of daycare and non-formal education. Today, these services reach about 2500 children daily and are provided virtually free of cost to them.

TAX BENEFITS

Funding for this campaign is eligible for tax breaks as the DCCW is a registered trust and you can avail of benefits under section 80G of the IT act. Foreign funding is accepted too.

FEEDBACK THAT YOU GET

To ensure that there is complete transparency I shall get a report from DCCW (this takes between 1 to 3 months usually after the funds are raised & transferred to them) telling me who benefitted from the funding. The details will then be posted on the UPDATES section of my campaign and will be in a format like the one below. As soon as I post an update, the platform will send an SMS and EMAIL alert to all the funders - i.e. to you. Click on the link on the email and you can read about which child benefitted. That's transparent right.

The below image is an example of the FEEDBACK FORMAT that we will be shared with all my funders.

FAQs

Will we get to know the details of who benefitted?

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to DCCW. It will take from 1 to 3 months after that to get details of fund use. Once I get this information from them I shall upload this on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes up to 2 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 4 to 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
This is an open forum for all funders of this campaign.
