PAPER PLANES

Paper Planes offers a creative platform and supportive environment for young adults who are going through their own personal struggles. Paper Planes was started by four teenagers from Bangalore who cares about your mental health. Paper Planes would like to give people a platform for expression of emotions that are generally difficult to talk about or taboo in our culture.

We are raising funds to impact mental health using our platform and also would like to support the NGO - Sambhav Foundation which predominantly works with kids with disabilities. The funds raised through this campaign will be used to support kids with disabilities, to conduct the workshop ART TO HEART to raise awareness of mental health, enhancing the features of the website and Marketing.

Together, we aim to raise INR 1L or more through this campaign and support 8 kids or more with disabilities for a month. I am individually trying to raise INR 25000 or more.

ABOUT PAPER PLANES

We are a group of four teenagers from Bangalore who cares about your mental health and ours. We think good mental health is something we’ve all struggled with at some point, some people more than others. We believe that everyone should know about how to be healthy- mentally as well as physically. It’s not a topic a lot of people talk about, especially in this country, and we want to change that.

Paper Planes is an organization initiated by the four of us, Minoli, Divya, Armaan, and Antara, to provide an outlet and a voice to individuals who are going through their own personal struggles. We hope to achieve this by creating a safe space for these people to express themselves.

Creative expression is our natural way of understanding each other and ourselves. We would like to give people a platform for expression of emotions that are generally difficult to talk about or taboo in our culture.
Inspiration struck when the four of us realized that our openness in sharing our unique ways of self-expression with each other should be translated into a larger group setting.

We came up with the name, “Paper Planes” because a lot of us see the paper as fragile, easily damaged and difficult to repair. We want to embrace this fragility and show people that they are delicate but that doesn’t mean they can't reach new heights.

ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN

My name is Divya and I am currently studying in 11th Grade in The International School Bangalore (TISB).

My friends and I started this initiative last year after we got together and realized that a lot of teenagers like us had personal struggles with mental health issues, which they were not able to openly discuss. We wanted to help by providing an open platform for people to freely express themselves and the things they were going through. We created a website to provide this platform for everyone. We also organized our first event in December 2018, where people who attended read their poems, showcased their art and talked about their journey. We noticed that this platform really helped people to embrace every part of themselves and their personality.

We want to continue this initiative this year as well, with our event which is now taking place on the 21st of December. This year, along with a general discussion of the submissions we receive and talks from professionals, we are also organizing an art therapy session. During this session, everyone is free to draw or paint whatever they want to or whatever is on their mind. We hope this experience will reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health and be therapeutic to all those who attend.

Together, we would like to raise funds for organizing our event, sustaining our website and also helping the students of Sambhav Foundation. With your assistance, we hope to provide support to the people around us and leave a positive impact on our community.

TEAM PAPER PLANES

ABOUT PROJECT SAADHYA

Project Saadhya, an initiative of Sambhav Foundation, is aimed at enabling children with mental disabilities to lead a sustainable life through education and skill development. By addressing the problems of children from vulnerable backgrounds and socially marginalized sections, this self-enrichment program strives to empower them by developing coping skills for survival.

Through early intervention (for children aged 0 - 6 years) and special education programs (6+ years) for those children identified as having delayed development and growth progress, special educators at Sambhav endeavor to train them to cope up with day-to-day activities and bring them into mainstream life. Teaching methods are varied and focused on the disability the child is diagnosed with. Sensory therapy, Physiotherapy, Speech Therapy, Computer training, Bio-medical interventions help the children develop cognitive skills and open doors for them to learn vocational skills that can empower them to work and earn a decent livelihood. Vocational training in handicrafts, tailoring, phenyl and soap oil making, chocolate making, candle making, etc. is presently underway for inculcating life skills among these children.

With Saadhya, Sambhav creates an inclusive life for each child it supports through vision and valued roles and help him or her life in the society with dignity. Training and guidance are also provided to the parents and caregivers for them to cope up with the demands of supporting a disabled child.

Today, Sambhav caters to 80 individuals aged 5 – 25 years through Project Saadhya. These individuals are inflicted by medical conditions like Down’s syndrome, Dyslexia, Psychomotor disorder, Microcephaly, Epilepsy, Speech and language disorder, ADHD, Autism, to name a few.

Sambhav hopes to take the program to the next level and bring more and more children like Adithya into its fold by raising funds for the program.

INR 6000 is spent on each child per month under Project Saadhya which includes education, speech therapy, nutrition, and vocational training. While INR 1000 is contributed by the parent, INR 5000 is funded by an individual or corporate donors.

There are certain disadvantaged children whose parents are incapable of sponsoring their children’s education and therapy. Under such circumstances, the child is totally dependent on funds from donors.

TAX BENEFITS FOR FUNDERS

All funding for this campaign has tax benefits. Receipts will be issued by Sambhav Foundation which is a registered NGO. Indian citizens can avail of 80G tax benefits. Foreign funding is accepted too.

COST BREAKUP PER CHILD

INR 6000 is spent on each child per month under Project Saadhya which includes education, speech therapy, nutrition, and vocational training. While INR 1000 is contributed by the parent, INR 5000 is funded by an individual or corporate donors. I am raising 20000 INR to fund the education of a child for 4 months.

Parents cannot afford to pay 6000 INR and are able to only pay 17% of the cost which is 1000 INR per month. Sambhav needs help to raise funds for the balance 5000 INR and that is what we are raising through this crowdfunding campaign.

FAQs

Will we get to know the details of how the money was spent?

Yes. After the money has been collected it will be transferred by Fueladream to Sambhav Foundation. It will take from 60 to 120 days after that to get details of who the beneficiary was with details of them. Once I get this information from them I shall upload the picture of the beneficiary on the UPDATES section of this campaign. You will then get an alert & can read details about the beneficiaries.

When do I get the receipts?

It takes up to 2-3 weeks after the campaign is closed for the monies to be transferred to the NGO. The receipts will start getting processed about 6 weeks AFTER the campaign is closed and will be sent to you directly.

How does crowdfunding work?

Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly.

It’s a concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream.com is a crowdfunding platform in India that allows for such pooling of funds. You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on an FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries.

Updates have been committed to after the campaign ends.
This is an open forum for all funders of this campaign.
