THE PROBLEM:
Air pollution in Delhi has created a severe public health crisis that heavily impacts children, whose developing lungs and faster breathing rates make them uniquely vulnerable. Chronic exposure to fine particulate matter PM 2.5 permanently stunting lung growth and drastically reducing lung capacity and result in asthma, chronic wheezing, and immune system vulnerabilities especially during the winter smog seasons.
Beyond physical damage, the toxic air takes a heavy toll on children’s cognitive and social development. Fine pollutants can cross the blood-brain barrier, triggering neuroinflammation that researchers link to memory issues, anxiety, and lowered academic performance.
Furthermore, hazardous Air Quality Index (AQI) levels frequently force school closures and outdoor play bans, depriving children of vital physical activity and normal social interactions. Ultimately, this constant exposure during foundational years sets a dangerous trajectory for the future. It increases the baseline risk for adult cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, with studies indicating that long-term exposure to Delhi's ambient air can significantly shorten a child's life expectancy.
THE INITIATIVE:

PRANA (Purified Air for Nurturing Academics) a social initiative by Arnavi Jain, aims to improve the quality of air in the Classrooms where children spend 5-6 hours by installing low-cost air purifiers in Primary Classes and create awareness about adopting Yoga for strengthening the lungs to resist the impact of air pollution.
In addition, the aim is to make children aware of the level of pollution in their immediate surroundings and take preventive measures accordingly. This is to be achieved through the portable Air Quality Monitors attached to the Air Purifiers.
The low cost air purifiers are placed in Grades 1–3 of each school.

ABOUT ME:
My name is Asherah Srinivas. I am a Grade 10 student at Vasant Valley School, New Delhi.
Deeply concerned about the growing impact of air pollution in Delhi, where I have resided since childhood, I have embarked on Mission PRANA, a social initiative by Arnavi Jain, to improve the health of children from underprivileged families. Through my initiative, I aim to raise funds for the distribution of low-cost air purifiers to schools in Delhi that cater to children of lower-income households.
Fund INR 6250, for eg, to provide one low-cost air purifier to a classroom. Together, we can help create a cleaner and healthier classroom environment, particularly in the primary classes, the age at which children develop severe lung and respiratory damage and weakened immune systems. The mission also aims to teach children to adopt Yoga for strengthening the lungs to resist the impact of air pollution.
