Can you imagine having your very own army to fight for you all the time? Well, that’s exactly the function of the human immune system. It’s constantly fighting against pathogens like bacteria, virus, protozoans etc., to keep you healthy. But not everyone has that army. There are children whose immune systems are not equipped to fight against these nasty infections and they are constantly in hospitals. The serious cases often turn fatal. The only way for them to lead a normal life is through a regular monthly treatment that the doctors at the Aster Hospital in Bangalore provide. These kids come from families where the parents don’t have enough money to afford this expensive treatment.
HELP ME RAISE 20000 INR & FUND A CHILD’S TREATMENT FOR 1 MONTH!
CASE STUDY: HOW TIMELY TREATMENT HAS CHANGED A LIFE
WHAT ARE PRIMARY IMMUNODEFICIENCY DISEASES?
1 in every 2000 children have a condition known as Primary Immunodeficiency disease. This means that their body doesn’t fight harmful outside organisms. Even a common cold can be life-threatening for these kids. They require an Intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) injection every month to keep diseases at bay. The cost of this medicine is dependent on the weight of the child.
PIC: The cost of treatment increases with the weight of a child & gets more expensive as they grow.
In addition there are costs of the doctor & hospital charges that can add upto 10000 INR or more per month .The Aster CMI Hospital is waiving this amount as this treatment is for those kids who cannot afford these costs.
However, there is an even bigger problem. In India, less than 2% of kids with Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases are actually diagnosed with it. Most cases of it go undiagnosed and unreported. Parents run from pillar to post with children who are constantly sick and suffering multiple times from life-threatening diseases.
Not only do the kids suffering from these diseases need help with the cost of their medication, but Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases require a lot more awareness so that many more children who are living with these diseases can gain access to the right kind of care and medication. Luckily, we have reached a stage where Diagnostics and therapeutics can diagnose, control and cure the ailments that affect these children.
ABOUT ME & THIS CAMPAIGN
I’m A.G, a 12-year-old studying in the 6th grade at Canadian International School. Students from my school have signed up on FuelADream.com to raise money to fund the treatment costs of underprivileged children with Primary Immunodeficiency disease. We are doing this in partnership with Aster Hospitals, one of the country’s first hospitals to be focused on Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases. The funds raised are given to them to make sure that the funds help these children as their parents cannot afford this expensive treatment. Each of us is supporting the fund raising for ONE CHILD for a 2- MONTH period.
Children do not belong in hospitals, they deserve to have a full and healthy life with the luxury of playing outdoors and making friends. The reality that these children have such a tough time with activities that we all take for granted has really resonated with me. It has encouraged me to get behind this cause and run this campaign.
Doing this ensures that one more child gets a chance to go out and play rather than suffer at home. Healthcare is a human right and research in the field needs to be continuously evolving to make sure that it is easier to diagnose and treat people with life-threatening disease like Primary Immunodeficiency Diseases.

Today my class and I went to Aster CMI Hospital. We went there to learn about auto-immune deficiency and how hard it is for children who have it. When we arrived, we went into a room where a doctor explained this problem to us.
He told us that this is caused by a lack of B-cells in the body. B-cells contain a Y shaped structure called antibodies. These are needed to find the harmful bacteria and viruses in the body. Without it, it is not possible to kill them. The only way to solve this is by getting antibody injections which can be very costly and the children need to take the injection once a month.
We need to help theses children because it can be very hard to afford these injections for a normal family. We need to help these children because they deserve a normal life.

How does crowdfunding work?
Crowdfunding in India is a relatively new concept & is growing very quickly. It’s s concept that allows a large number of funders (like you) to fund an Idea or a cause or event by giving small amounts of money online. Fueladream is a crowdfunding site and platform in India that allows for such a pooling of funds.
You can fund innovations & ideas on FuelADream and be the first to get these products or make them come true. You can also do a good turn by funding charities and causes through crowdfunding. When you fund a charity it’s more like a donation & you get small innovative rewards like a shout-out on a FB page or a thank you email from the beneficiaries in addition to tax benefits.
